Catenda
Bavarian State Building Administration (ZBIM)

A new colleague is ready to go in 10–30 minutes.

How Bavaria's 22 building authorities adopted BIM and open exchange formats with Catenda Hub, and why 'The Open Way' is actually put into practice.

The facts a peer in your shoes scans first: who they are, what they build, and which parts of Catenda they put to work.

Before Catenda, a first BIM project meant completely new processes.

The new building in Ebern wasn't initially conceived as a BIM project, so the Schweinfurt State Building Authority could only start from service phase 3, and on a demanding passive-house building at that. BIM introduced completely new processes, and in a public administration not every employee has the chance to view IFC models.

The team absolutely needed a CDE platform with open exchange formats.

It's our very first BIM project.

What they did with Catenda.

On the Catenda platform, project participants find all project-related documents and can view models created by specialist planners in different authoring systems, in IFC format, through a viewer. Catenda Hub's Issue and Task Management and the integrated BCF server keep the whole team up to date, even when they aren't continuously CC'd on email.

Sources of error can be eliminated before they arise. In close collaboration with Catenda, dedicated dashboards for the building administrations are also being developed.

What changed once the project had one source of truth.

The team is always up to date and no longer has to archive files from various emails, the constant phone calls chasing project information are a thing of the past. The platform is so user-friendly that new colleagues are usually ready in about 10–30 minutes.

On uploads the team is on average 60 minutes faster than with other programs, because the system recognizes versions on its own and avoids duplicates.

For my team and me, Catenda Hub is currently the most pleasant and best CDE program on the market.
